Featured Expert: My Tips for Feeling Confident in Photos
I’m excited to share that I’ve been featured as one of nine experts in Stylist Magazine’s article, “I take photos for a living – here are 9 tricks I use to help people take a better picture.”
I’m very grateful to be recognised for my expertise in capturing authentic and confident portraits. Sharing one of my favourite tips on using props to alleviate camera awkwardness feels amazing! I know firsthand how much a simple prop can transform a photo from stiff to stunning.
I use my own at-times awkward experiences in front of the camera in my approach to putting my clients at ease, and I’m so happy to see it resonating with others. It’s absolutely wonderful to be featured in Stylist’s article, written by award winning journalist Vicky Chandler, and I’m excited to continue helping people feel confident in front of the camera.

(At the time of writing, it is £3.50 to subscribe to Stylist Magazine’s digital platform for a month, or a printed copy is also available. Stylist is a lifestyle brand for women tackling issues women face in their professional and personal lives.).
How did I make this happen?
It was easier than you might think, but it takes a bit of time and a bit of luck. But here are the exact steps I took to get featured in a magazine article:
- Search the hashtag #journorequest on X. This is a hashtag that journalists use when they are looking for contributors to an article or podcast etc that they are writing. It could be that they need a quote or expert opinion, as in my case, or are looking to interview someone with experience of something in particular.
- Find a request that resonates with you and that you have something of value to contribute to.
- Contact the journalist and offer your help.
- Ask if the journalist is able to link to your website or Instagram (linking to your website is like SEO gold, especially if it’s a reputable site. For extra SEO points link back to the site if you can – see what I’m doing here?!)
- Once published, ask permission from the publication if you can share a link or a screenshot to the article.
And that’s it! A couple of days later the article was published! You have nothing to lose by trying – so I encourage you to give it a try too! What’s the worst that can happen?
I am part of a brilliant marketing group called The Best 90 Days Ever*, run by the amazing Hannah Isted. The membership aims to help you promote your business and grow your audience with daily 10-minute marketing tasks. And it was Hannah who flagged the post on X looking for contributors! So a big thank you to Hannah!
